What is Chiche?

An app for challenges between friends. Your group starts a challenge (workouts, revision, reading, a tidy flat) and everyone picks their own weekly goal.

You prove each session with a photo and the group approves it. On Sunday at 8 pm the verdict drops: whoever cracked takes a forfeit.

How do I join a challenge?

Open the link your group shared (on WhatsApp, iMessage or anywhere else). Pick your goal, then hold the button to sign the pact.

A group has 2 to 8 people. You can join a challenge during its first week, and follow up to 3 challenges at once.

How do I prove a session?

Take the photo in the app: it shoots the back camera and a selfie at once. You can also pick an image from your photo library, a Strava screenshot for instance. Add a caption if you like.

One proof per day. It counts unless your group rejects it.

Who approves my proofs?

Your group, with one tap: approve or challenge. It takes 2 challenges to reject a proof.

If nobody challenges it within 12 hours, it is approved automatically, so nothing gets stuck when people forget to vote.

How does the verdict work?

Every Sunday at 8 pm (Paris time), Chiche tallies the week: who hit their goal, who missed sessions. Then the forfeit is drawn at random, in front of the whole group.

A proof sent on Sunday counts even if nobody has voted by 8 pm: only a rejected proof doesn’t count.

A season lasts 4 weeks, so 4 verdicts. Then you restart with one tap.

Does it cost anything? Can we bet?

Chiche is free, with no ads. And there is never any money between players: no stakes, no bets, no kitty. What’s at stake is the forfeit, and your pride.

Forfeits

How is my forfeit worked out?

By default, 24 hours of forfeit per missed session (the group can choose 12 or 48 hours), with a maximum of 72 hours. Aimed for 4 sessions and did 2? 48 hours. Every session you catch up before Sunday shortens it.

When creating the challenge, the group picks one of two forfeits:

  • without your apps: the apps you chose are paused for the length of the forfeit, at a time drawn at random (or the following weekend, if the group chose that);
  • a surprise forfeit per missed session, drawn from a list: a set story, a set pose, a chore, a set playlist, a bonus session, a set wallpaper, or a forfeit written by the group.
Do I have to block my apps?

No. If you decline Screen Time access when you sign, you still join the challenge: your forfeits will be surprise forfeits.

Can I unlock my apps during a forfeit?

Yes, always. The pause screen offers "Unlock anyway". It’s your choice, but your group will see it, as you agreed when you signed.

You can also remove Screen Time access in the iPhone’s Settings. Your group will then see that your forfeit is no longer active.

What does my group see of my Screen Time?

Three things: that you chose your apps, whether you tap "Unlock anyway" before a forfeit ends, and whether your forfeit is no longer active.

Never which apps, how many, or how long you use them. Even Chiche doesn’t know: it stays on your iPhone.

A forfeit or a proof bothers me.

A forfeit never obliges you to do anything dangerous, humiliating or illegal. If a forfeit makes you uncomfortable, don’t do it.

You can report a proof in the app: it disappears for you straight away, and every report is reviewed within 24 hours. You can also challenge a proof, or leave the challenge: you no longer see anything from the group, and what you left there is erased. The group is told you left.

Your account and your data

Why don’t I need an email address?

Your account is anonymous: just a first name. It lives on your iPhone, with no email, phone number or password.

If you switch phones without restoring a backup, you start again with a new account.

Who sees my photos?

Only the members of the challenge. They are never public, and they are deleted 30 days after you send them.

I’m not getting notifications.

Go to Settings, then Notifications, then Chiche, and turn on "Allow Notifications". Also check that a Focus mode isn’t blocking them.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: tap your name at the top of the home screen, then "Supprimer mon compte" (Delete my account). It’s immediate and permanent: your name, proofs, photos and votes are erased. Your groups are told you left.

The details are in the privacy policy.
